I turn my head slowly to look at the walls. Stone, heavy and grey. One side has a window looking out onto a night sky. Another is entirely made of a metal gate, and on the other side sits the monster. I swallow hard, and say nothing, taking in every detail, willing myself to give no reaction at all to my captor.
“Look upon me, then. You’ll see me for many days hence.”
His eyes glow red and unnatural, but in them is an intelligence. The ears are pointed, like the bats of our warrens, nearer to the back of his head.
“What are you?” I ask, noting the powerful muscles of his body, beneath black, warped skin that looks dry and peeling. Veins ride out hard against the flesh, bulging as though from an excess of power. From behind his back rise huge, membranous black wings, with pointed upper tips that hook together, holding them closed … again, like a bat’s.
“I once looked like your kind, you know,” he says, not quite answering the question. My eyes wander down, unable to stop. “I would not look there now, if I were you.”
His voice is gravelly and soft, and I stop my eyes at his chest, feeling my heart suddenly skip beats. It rarely does that.
“Why?”
“There are many strange stories to tell. You’re the only one I’ve met who hasn’t lost some of her sense by now. I wonder how many stories you could bear.”
“Test me, then.”
I lift my eyes to his and feel a daring in them I do not know the source of, but it takes over, like everything else. His chin is sharp and pointed, and I see fangs hiding behind the surface of his lips. They gleam, those lips, wet and hungry for something I have yet to see.

Scary, delicious, compelling...

You have to let yourself sink into this short novel in order to derive the real pleasure that it holds. Mira Noire tells about two worlds. The cyborg Wroks fight and struggle among themselves in the nasty, post-nuclear upper world, while the human hunter-gatherers inhabit the warrens and caves of the underworld. A thousand years ago the humans were a highly-intelligent, civilized, and sophisticated species. In fact the humans invented and created the bio-mechanical Wroks to act as their robots and servants. These cyborgs were intelligent beings; they served humanity in the capacity of lawyers, doctors, and professors. And then things went wrong. The humans were driven underground. The Wroks had to fend for themselves. They mutated into black, ugly, oversized monsters. They became infested with rot, disease, and imbecility.
Yoevin, the leader among the Wroks, figures out that his people need to cross-breed with the underworld humans in order to bring about a new society. They try many breeding experiments, most of which fail. One dark and moon-lit night the lovely, but tough-minded, Imogenne comes, with her clan, out above-ground on a foraging mission. Yoevin captures her with the intent to breed her. There follows the scariest, but by far, the most thrilling chapter in the book. Yoevin, is huge and black with pealing skin. He has fangs; he has wings. Instead of hands he has claws. He can speak her language. Mostly he goes by smell. He can smell her. And that smell drives him and pollutes his mind. Imogenne is frightened but courageous. Her body betrays her. She gets wet. Her fat nipples pucker. When she feels down between Yoevin's legs, she finds not one, but two, penises. One above the other. Well, I've told too much. You better read it for yourself.

A heavily erotic and darkly themed romance.

Womb of the New World was nothing like I expected it to be.
The main characters are misfits in their own primitively established communities that have been separated by time, tradition, and a poor understanding of technology that has long since been lost.
Imogenne can't help her reaction... the attraction she feels, for her Wrok captor, but their barbaric practices have been torturing and destroying women for years. Confused by the biochemical pull he feels towards Imogenne in return, and unable to suppress any longer the long denied memories of a past that no longer exists, the two must decide to continue with tradition or dare to start a chain reaction that could potentially change everything their New World believes is true.
I enjoyed this well written and fast paced short story. I'll admit, the beginning was a bit unusual, and I wondered where she was going with this story, but by the middle I was hooked! The themes were unique, Mira Noire's world building is vivid, and the main characters have a surprising amount of complexity in addition to sexual chemistry. If you are a fan of dark erotica and sexy alien life forms with a twist, then this is the book for you!

a dark enjoyable story

I enjoyed this futuristic story. It features Imogenne, a woman who has spent her life underground to avoid capture by the Wroks. Wroks are cyborgs who are desperately searching for human women to breed with to produce the future race of cyborg/human. Imogenne is a very strong and determined woman who has had erotic dreams of that leave her wanting to explore the world. Yoevin is the leader of the Wroks and he is a cyborg who longs for something, though he is not sure what it is. The chemistry between Imogenne and Yoevin is instant and electric. I felt the story was well written and provided good background information for me not to feel lost while reading. This is a very enjoyable book about two different species struggling to survive. A warning: the two surviving races are biologically different and if interspecies sexual situations offend you, do not read this book.
